Episode 7: Mohair (Carmen's Mom)

This week’s episode is really special to me. I get to introduce you to my mom, who I affectionately call Mohair. You’ll hear how she got that name. Not unlike a lot of folks, I grew up with a single mom, in low-income housing. I remember my mom working two jobs just to keep mac n cheese on the table. We may not have had a lot, but I wouldn’t trade the way I was raised for anything. My mom taught me about perseverance, how to be resourceful, and how to laugh through any circumstance. She’s never taken herself too seriously, and that is a gift she - for sure -  has passed on to me. My mom is southern through and through. She’s also hysterical. She keeps us laughing all the time, and she’s known for saying the “quiet parts” out loud!  In our sit-down, you’ll hear about the time I got in the most trouble in high school, her MS diagnosis, and when I told her I was pregnant. We share some really personal moments. I love my mom so much. And I’m really eager to share her with you.

Thank you both for being so transparent. Cherish your relationship as time is fleeting. You both are wonderful godly women.

i love that your mom is still going strong 10 yrs after MS. I am 56 yr old single mom. raised my daughter by myself. now helping my daughter raise her daughter plus work 2 jobs to make ends meet. I 2014 when i was diagnosed. I thought my life was over. I didn't know anyone who has MS and still worked. Everyone was on disability. I knew I would not be able to survive financially on disability. But, Thank the Lord, pray and perseverance. I have been able to still work 2 jobs and keep my MS at bay.

My sister, Beckie Crawford Smith, called me tonite (2/29/2020) & told me re: your mom's comment re: her MS and if she had the chance to be healed. I grew up w/ Bro. Jim as my youth minister @ the old First Assembly in Lkld. I got involved in music under his direction. Many good memories. I was diagnosed w/MS in 1994, spent a wk in Lkld Regional, went hm walking w/cane. Went into remission until 2000. Went through a very emotional and stressful divorce. That triggered the MS big time. BUT, it drew me closer to God in such a way I can't describe. I have such a Joy in my heart that no man can take away. I am blessed beyond words. I still walk w/a cane. The MS has not progressed. PRAISE GOD. I AM BLESSED!!!! STAY BLESSED CARMEN'S MOM. WE WILL WALK AND JUMP AND RUN IN HEAVEN!!!!!!
