Approaching Storms
We went on a family walk the other night. Well, it was more like a family stroll. We took our time as our girls were picking up leaves and just enjoying being outside. My husband and I noticed a thunderstorm in the distance, and not wanting to be caught out in the lightning and rain, we started to tell the girls to pick up the pace. As the storm got closer, our urgency picked up. However, the girls were enjoying themselves and totally oblivious. It felt like the more we told them to hurry the slower they moved. That is until my husband and I got to our breaking point and just said, “Now!”
You see, we could see the lightning getting closer and closer (and the potential threat), but our girls didn’t. Once we all got in the car, we told them why we were hurrying them. We explained that sometimes they just have to trust us, trust that we love them and sometimes they just need to listen even when they don’t understand because we want what is best for them.
As those words were coming out of my mouth, I literally felt like God was saying it right back to me. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
There are times when I have no idea why circumstances or events are occurring. However, I do know that God’s heart is for me and He loves me completely. God knows the “storms” that are coming in my own life, and I just need to trust Him.
