Falling in Love with Jesus
I grew up going to church. I mean like REALLY going to church. Sunday school every week followed by the worship service and then the evening service. Wednesday night supper followed by prayer meeting and then youth group. You get the idea. In fact, I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t active in church! It nurtured me as I learned to follow Jesus.
Because I grew up like this, I’ve always shied away from telling my story. I would hear other people talk about their radical encounter with Jesus and their dramatic conversion from darkness to light; but since my redemption story wasn’t like that, I felt like I didn’t have anything worth sharing. That is until I met my husband. I didn’t have that grand “love at first sight moment” with him either! Instead, over time, my love for him grew.
That’s kinda like how it was falling in love with Jesus. It was over time, seeing His character and His heart for me. God has been (and continues to be) faithful in pursuing me, and He is pursuing you too.
As I’ve pursued Jesus back, I have found that Christianity isn’t a philosophy or a list of oppressive rules. It is a freedom that is real and deep and it comes through a relationship with Jesus as he invites us to turn and follow Him.
But don’t take my word for it. Investigate it for yourself. Look into who this person named Jesus truly is.
Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
