Fear
I went on a work trip recently, and it was one of those travel days where nothing went right. My plane was late so I arrived late to my destination then my luggage got lost. I called my husband to complain. As we were talking, our daughter overheard our conversation. She immediately got fearful that two bad things meant another bad thing was around the corner for me. Her tummy started hurting to the point she almost had to stay home from school. I Facetimed her to assure her that a crummy travel day didn’t mean that God had something bad in store for me.
As children of God, how often do we fear. We might say, “Things are just too good right now.” Or, “Bad things always come in threes.” We live a life maybe not even realizing that our view of God is incorrect. Numbers 6:24-26 speaks about God’s heart for us, “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace." God isn’t sitting far off playing a game with our lives.
When my daughter is struggling with fear, we sing the Zack Williams song “Fear is a Liar” to each other. “Fear he is a liar. He will rob your rest. Steal your happiness. Cast your fear in the fire.” Whatever fear might be telling you, replace that lie with the truth that God is with you, God is for you, and God loves you. So, what is there to fear?
Oh, and eventually the airline did find my luggage!
