Great Faithfulness

Lamentations

Every day God renews and creates new ways of demonstrating His lovingkindness, His compassion, and our reason for and source of hope. God is faithful, His love never ends. And that kind of hope must ultimately lead to joy.

That’s true even, maybe especially, in our darkest hours. The Old Testament prophet Jeremiah recognized this during one of Israel’s darkest times, after the destruction of both Jerusalem and the Temple. As Jeremiah lamented the state which Israel found itself in, made even more painful by the realization that the nation’s own sins were the cause, he stopped to remember a reason for hope, God’s lovingkindnesses never cease, His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; therefore we have hope in God.

This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope. The Lord’s lovingkindnesses indeed never cease, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I have hope in Him.” Lamentations 3:21 – 24
