Plan B

My husband and I are starting to talk with our oldest daughter, Suzie, about life after high school.  Where does she see God leading her?  What are the gifts and talents that the Lord has given her?  It’s a fun new stage of parenting where we get to see her ask big life questions and follow the Lord.

Plan BThe other night, I was talking with Suzie about what college she would want to attend.  Encouraging her to dream big dreams because — with God —nothing is impossible. But make sure to hold those dreams loosely in your hands.  What you might consider your “Plan B” might actually be God’s “Plan A” for you.

At that moment, I shared with her about the time my own plan B turned out to be my plan A.  Growing up in a small town in South Georgia and attending a small high school, I always dreamed about seeing the world.  So, I applied to the University of Southern California.  Back then, the internet was this new thing that schools were trying out but hadn’t fully committed to. So, acceptance letters were sent in the mail. After not hearing anything back, I reluctantly went with my plan B, The University of Georgia.  The day I was leaving for college, my car was all packed up…. the acceptance letter from The University of Southern California arrived in the mail.  It was all mangled up, and it had obviously had gotten lost in the mail.  At that point, it was too late.

Fast forward, me going to the University of Georgia became one of the best things in my life.  I fell in love with the town and the people.  I now live in Athens with my family and even convinced my parents and sister to move here too.  It has been such an amazing blessing.

There are times in our lives when we just have to trust God and not hold our plans so tightly and be willing for Him to lead us no matter what.
